Sungdoo Nahm counsels clients on trademark protection on a global scale. He is heavily involved in doing clearance and registration searches and opinions and is also responsible for coordinating international trademark prosecution and enforcement.
Sungdoo also drafts and executes IP-related agreements including licenses and assignments, and Sungdoo works with luxury and fashion brands, with pharmaceutical companies, and also with hospitality industry leaders.
He has represented various clients including Hasbro, Tim Hortons, Colgate-Palmolive Company, WIZ KHALIFA, and YEEZUS among many others.
For Hasbro, he was able to register TM “MY LITTLE PONY” over prior existing registrations, the prominent portion of which included “PONY” entirely. His dissimilarity argument in trial and appeal procedures was successful as the Korean Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAB) decided to reverse the prior decision of rejection made by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) to deny the registration for “MY LITTLE PONY”.
Sungdoo Nahm was also responsible for drafting a cease and desist letter to a local knock-off ‘Tim Mortons’ coffee in the Republic of Korea and successfully enforced against such use on the basis of Tim Hortons’ fame, reputation, and goodwill earned in the overseas.
Sungdoo has professional memberships with the INTA, ECTA, and PTMG. He is also a member of the INTA Unfair Competition Committee.
